Run for a Safety Road

My block mates/Transportation Mngt. students

Last Sunday (November 20, 2011), We went to SM Mall off Asia Concert Grounds to celebrate the "World Remembrance Day" for Road Traffic Victims. The 3rd Sunday of November every year has been declared by the United Nations as Remembrance Day for Road Traffic Victims. The day is created as a means to give recognition to victims of traffic crashes and the plight of their loved ones who must cope with the emotional and practical consequences of these tragedies.

The program starts for about 4PM, TM students, coast guards, and other guests participated for a 3 and 5 kilometer run. (I was a little bit late that time). After the fun run, they announced the winners for the different activities such as slogan making, poster making contest and the fastest runner. Then about 6:30PM we started the lighting of lanterns. It was my first time doing that kind of thing and I had never imagined that lighting of lantern was that hard and scary. (You need to light the candle and hold the lantern and wait  for it to accumulate the needed air for it to fly).

It was hard but it was really fun. So after lighting a lot of lanterns, I've been a veteran. Haha. And FYI, the lanterns symbolizes the lives of every road victims. And we had a total of 12,000 lanterns there. After the lighting of lanterns, we watched the fireworks display. It was an awesome night. Also, after the run, we had received a necklace with a tag "Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011- 2020)".

After the event, I'm still asking everyone of you to STAY SAFE. FOLLOW THE RULES IN ROAD AND BE AWARE. As my slogan says, Knows road safety, No injury. No road safety, Knows injury. BE CAREFUL GUYS! Always have a safe trip.

Thank you for the sponsors of the event: Shell, Jollibee and Pocari Sweat
(Sorry I don't know the others) :)
